He was just scooping the birdseed out in his little paw and shoving it into his face.
To the right you can see Gary’s squirrel deterrent. Up till now the squirrels have been spiralling around the nut feeder, but now woodpeckers have found the squirrel feeder and I guess this is revenge.

I hate them because their tails look creepy up close.
Deterrent? I see a wire cage full of yummy stuff too big to get out through the spaces in the wire. Squirrels don’t like frustration.
Spread some peanut butter on the wire of that peanut feeder – they’ll go apeshit.
Tami – Yes. Rat tails. Plus look at those nasty rat claws~~Silk – In the six weeks weve had it, this is the first time I’ve seen one NOT hanging on the wire cage. They love that thing. I thought squirrels like a challenge. Plus, Nut > seed.Mare – As long as the woodpecker can still stick a beak in and impale a nut.
