The Music Man, Continued, and So on, And Also So Forth

In the past seven days I have seen The Music Man IN FULL five times. Two days Gary was merciful and just jumped to the songs.

He pins me down if I try to leave. The thing is, he keeps seeing details he didn’t see before. Last night we had to track down what is carved on Mr. Madison’s statue. This involved much TiVoing, squinting, and Googling. And it is: “Clean Your Finger Before You Point At My Spots.” Originally Ben Franklin. (Apparently about hypocrisy. Not one of his best. Has anyone heard this before?)

A few nights ago in bed I surmised that I thought a “peckhorn” was a horn like a tuba, but smaller, so it could only hold a peck instead of a bushel. An hour later he was able to get back in bed, because he’d tracked down the elusive peckhorn.

It’s our evening ritual now. I do still love Robert Preston. I need to counter with something I love irrationally and interminably.

OOOOOOOOOOOOHklahoma where the wind comes whistlin’ down the plain?

NO! My Fair Lady! Oh, there we are. Big Hats, catchy tunes, everything Music Man is. It will be my weapon of choice.

  1. I love My Fair Lady a whole lot, but if we’re talking Tami’s favorite weapon, it’s have to be Auntie Mame. I know, it’s not a musical, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s that awesome.
There’s a musical version called Mame, starring Lucille Ball. I’ve never seen it.
Of course, there’s also “Hello, Dolly!”.

  2. You could always fight back with Cats, but make sure you don’t have to be there.

  3. I was very disappointed to go back to “Funny Girl” after about 15 years and finding that it grated on every single nerve I have.

  4. Tami – Movie Mame starring Lucille Ball AND Robert Preston! He was forgettable, evidently.Caroline – I have read the book. Actually, Gary read the poems to me when I had the flu.Becs – I always see the last hour or so, and I’m surprised it’s a musical because that song just pops up out of nowhere. If I see it all, I am astonished to see Jack Nicholson.

  5. Candy – I think we’ll be renting that this coming weekend. We are still working the Music Man. We’ve seen a little of it each night, and ine night we sang the songs together in bed. Icky, I know.
