So this past week:
I bought Bossypants. Bloggers read this months ago.
I began playing Words with Friends. Bloggers did this a year ago. I’m not ready to play it with anyone but myself and a small circle of Friend. (Marcia, #3).
I made cake balls. Bloggers made these a year ago. I wanted to make cupcakes with macaroons inside, but cake balls sounded easier once I got a recipe.
1. Make a cake.
2. Shred it.
3. Mix it with a can of frosting and shape into balls.
4. Dip balls in dipping chocolate.
Some recipes have you make the icing and cake from scratch, put on gloves when you make the balls, or use a melon baller, but I was keeping it easy. Of course, now I’ve done that I need to make it hard. My next cake ball mix will be dark chocolate cake, cream cheese frosting, and milk chocolate dip. With a pretzel stick stuck in the middle like a lollipop. And crushed up Oreos and nuts, why not?
So, what else do I need to do? I seem to have marched to the delayed backbeat of my own drummer for a year: what other trends have I missed?

Cake balls have become my latest obsession. Sprinkle some sea salt on top of the chocolate ones. Yummy.
Kristie – I made more cake balls tonight. Devils food cake mix, cream cheese frosting, and a pretsel stuck in the middle. I was going to sprinkle on sea salt but I thought the prtezel lollipop stick achieved the same purpose.
I made peanut butter frosting for my chocolate cupcakes this weekend. Normally, I’m an ingredient snob – SNOB – but I was bringing these to an outdoor event on Monday, so I made the frosting with butter-flavor Crisco instead of butter. It tastes completely different, but it still tastes good, so good enough for summer, I guess.
Cake balls sound like I should serve them in air conditioning, or else when the temperature is under 80.
Tami – Snob like “real vanilla” or snob like “Williams sonoma bourbon vanilla?”
Snob like, “I make my own vanilla when I have the time”. And then I used FUCKING CRISCO. Williams Sonoma is where I shopped before I understood where to get the good stuff for less money than that. It’s still where I shop when I want to use something same-day, though.
