Duck Sighting

Today we were driving South on 270 toward Page, and we saw flashing lights ahead.

Traffic was still moving at 65mph past the two police cars parked in the passing lane. I mention that because it’s part of a word problem.

“If Gary is traveling at 65 mph past two police cars parked end to end, how much time does he have to grasp what is happening between the police cars?”

Here is a transcript of Gary’s description of what he saw. I have no dialog, because this is what happens when you stay quiet around Gary.

“Ducks! Hahaha! Did you see that? A baby duck!”
(Silence)
“There was a baby duck out there, about a foot high, and those two policemen were out there with it.”

“I didn’t know the police did that! Shepherding the animals to safety. I always thought they just let the animals get squished.”

“It looked so funny! Those two police officers had opened the car doors to made a corral around the duck and were trying to wave it into a car. They were waving at it, waving, and then eventually they got close enough to grab it.”
…? (Silence with a nuance of scepticism)
“That’s pretty amazing those officers would be out there risking their lives for a duck.”

That last line reads as if he was acknowledging how crazed his scenario was, but no. He really admires those duck-loving policemen.
