T-Minus 6

A woman at work is quite a wordsmith:

“I don’t see any one on our team going all clock tower any time soon.”

“A teacher friend of mine calls them ‘helicopter parents’ – they hover noisily.”

  1. She didn’t make up helicopter parents – but clock tower? Uh?And it’s no good, I’m going to have to ask, and I’m sorry if I’m being thick or if I missed something through not paying attention, but – T?

  2. Big Dot – Kind of local, I guess, at least local to the US:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Clock_Tower_MassacreHow about a Goldilocks class – the evals come back with “class was tooo sloooow” “Class was toooo fast” “Class was just right.”And the T- Minus, oh that’s something we have here called a countdown. See, we have a space program, and before something momentous happens we say, “T-Minus 10, T-Minus 9.” I’m teasing you.

  3. — Morbid comment warning–Not to make fun of your coworker but these days people say “go postal” or make Columbine references.Clock tower (yes, I had to look it up too) is a little dated.

  4. yeah…Clock Tower is an old reference, but if you lived in Texas or where in college at a university campus nearby at the time it’s no different that going postal or Columbine or Kent State. It’s all relative.

  5. Friend #.75 – Dated? DATED? You are on my list. Damned whippersnappers.Clock tower was a spontaneous reference, and, yes, the woman who said it is very quick and clever. And she’s a fan of Supernatural, like me! 😀

  6. As soon as I read the clocktower comment I thought, “She’s talking about UT in the 60s.” Of course, I’ve lived in Texas (just about) my whole life.

  7. PS-Although I also immediately think of the “Back to the Future” movies…especially the first one when they’re all “SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER! SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER!” But I also refer to the old Volkswagen vans as terrorist vans based on that movie…I was so not impressionable as a young child 😉

  8. Well, what I was GOING to say initially was Why go for such an old psycho-shooting reference when you have so many more recent ones to choose from? but I thought that was maybe a bit harsh from an outsider. Should have known you lot better! (And besides, we have had one of ur own.)

  9. Big Dot – T is Takeoff (or just Time of Event if it isn’t a takeoff). Actually, it isn’t a takeoff. You can guess, but I wish you well with that..75 – It is dated, but that’s what I like about it. Only people of a certain age can appreciate it best.3 – And she’s a Perfectionist, like me.Autumn – Ha! I never think of VW vans that way. I think of them as rolling sex wagons.TasterSpoon – Huh. I’d forgotten that scene. Only saw that movie once.Big Dot – I felt the distance from the crime would have given it more license to mock, plus it is a mild shout-out to my Texas roots. And you had a psycho-kiwi killing?.75 – Actually, 3 – spank her for that. Is she saying “your” instead of “you’re” just to bug you?

  10. .75 – Oh, if only you were my one and only sibling. Although my niece kinda makes my brother worth the effort.
