The Cask of TeddyJ

My lover TeddyJ fed me Boston Cream pie, Krispy Kreme donuts and cookies for Saint Pat’s day. While I’m enjoying the food, the ambiance … well, let’s just say my new office looks like the set of Brazil, what with the conduits hanging down from the ceiling.

(“Brazil” was Gary’s take. My first reaction was it was like the Awakening scene in Matrix, below.)

(Again with the tubes. Even the new buildings have the tubes. I don’t get it.)

So there’s a little creepiness factor, but it’s offset by the warmth of the people. I was walking out the front double doors and two men opened the door for me. One on each door. Trumpets did not sound, sadly enough.

But to add to the creepiness, I was talking with a co-worker, Robert, when I was interrupted by a faint “Yeeeeoooiiiiaaaaa…ahhhhhh.”

My head snapped toward the wall with the muffled howl.

“Yeah,” Robert yawned. “We don’t know what that is. The building makes that noise sometimes.”

Next I’ll hear heartbeats under the floor.

  1. Robert has explained that the buttresses are to protect from dinosaur invasions.I’ve got to come visit your location.

  2. I swore I had an elf living in my wall. Mysterious thumping sounds all the time. Then one day I came in to find a GIANT HOLE in my office wall where someone had apparently come in and removed the elf. Good times.

  3. Judith – They all graduated from that Make Nice class I failed at on my second week.Caroline – I keep meaning to look at the buttresses. I imagine it was more a comment on the age of the building. No disabled access, for example.~~Silk – Altogether oooky.Marriage 101 – A badger? An oppossum? A pipe? What was it really?

  4. Yeah, that’s what I’ll tell the police when they ask about the banging coming from my trunk. The car just…makes that noise sometimes.

  5. Candy – It was a really creepy sound, too, like a five your old girl was trapped in the wall.Erin – Hah! I can see many uses. “My buttocks just make that noise sometimes.”

  6. Our building makes a sound they refer to as the building fart. It freaked me out when I first worked here but now I’m used to it. When we’re on conference calls it’s sometimes loud enough for the person on the other end of the line to be concerned. It apparently has something to do with pipes in the wall venting so it’s random in duration and timing – and volume!

  7. I was on a conference call with someone in your building the other day when it happened. He apologized to the entire call for the “morning fart.”

  8. Hot Mom – That was Wednesday morning! I was in a meeting with Graquel, Scott and 6 others. The building broke wind LOUDLY and long enough for a awkward silence. Then, simultaneously, Graquel said “Ellen!” and Scott said “Graquel!”
