Tis the Season

Winter is officially here. The ice storm started about 2:00 pm. I fled home, and Mac greeted me by barfing up what can only be described as a Puke Turd. Lovely!

In the past I would have enjoyed the rush hour ice storm traffic, but this year I decided to bail out of work early just because I could. It seems every first snow or first ice of the season is greeted with dread and a semi-official Get Out Of Work Free Card. As I grow older I drive more cautiously in the snow. The first new car I ever loved was a Death Trap On A Skateboard, (a Honda CRX), and I particularly loved it when it would fishtail on the ice. But now I am older, and I have a Mini with a Dynamic Stability Control feature that makes it so you CAN’T fishtail. Watch as I attempt to skid on the ice in my subdivision. I feel it is only responsible to do a controlled subdivision skid because how else will you a feel for how slippery the ice is? Yes, exactly. All I get out of the Mini is a flashing yellow light that tells me, “HEY! You would be skidding now if it weren’t for my fine German engineering! See? THERE! That was ANOTHER skid I saved you from!”

I sooooooo want to turn off this feature and spin the Mini.

  1. I could have used some of that fine German engineering on my drive to daycare. Three kids were playing in their yard with their dog on a fairly busy road, when said dog decided to run in front of me. I missed him by inches, but only after cursing, tensing up, and skidding all over the place. As I pulled away, I watched in the rearview mirror as the kids continued to play with their unleashed dog as if they hadn’t almost witnessed its death.Oh, and your audio is recorded.

  2. That made me so nauseous I couldn’t even look for the blinking light.Send me your footage and I’ll rotate it for you. I’m going to go get sick now.And turn that music down when you’re driving in bad weather!!

  3. “I want a girl with a short skirt and a LONG JACKET!”The song was all I could concentrate on during that clip. Cake always makes me want to do a little dance in my chair.
