Balloon No-Glow

Well, I’ve been tongue-slapping Gary for not being spontaneous, so when I said Friday night “It’s a beautiful night! Let’s go see the Forest Park Balloon Glow!” I DID NOT REALIZE EVERYONE ELSE IN SAINT LOUIS said the same thing.

We started off at 6:30. Balloon Glow goes from 7 to 8:30. The traffic started here:

I think it was 7:45 when we got to the Park (big green rectangle on right. Bigger even than Central Park. Just wanted to throw that out.) We tried three different exits and could not even crawl in to the park. Finally at 8:15 we were at that desperate hysterical laughing phase and we whirled around and headed West toward home.

Three times on the trip home we encountered highway construction that shut various highways down to one lane. (I’ll SAY IT, paid for by my tax dollars.) We did not get to our neighborhood until nine, where we treated ourselves to some Starbuck’s decaf coffee-flavored water.

So, in past years the balloon glow looked like this:

But the only glow we saw was this:

  1. I’m almost sorry I told you about it. We went to the Magic House instead. Next year, you’re welcome to skip the glow and join us for family fun free night, featuring screaming pre-schoolers up past their bedtimes.

Comment, even if you aren't on WordPress. Make up a name. Fine by me.
