I am tweaking the landscaping — and this year is the year of the pink, evidently. Phlox, which I’ve never tried, and dianthus, which is a soldier.
You will note they are still in the pots. I worked for hours today, but it was all spent unearthing the river rocks I put out ten years ago. I count it a victory the flowers aren’t still in the back of the car, like the johnny-jump-ups twenty years ago. (I forgot them for days, but they rallied.)
Ten years, twenty years … you know what didn’t happen as many years ago? No one asked if I needed help getting the dirt into my car.

Hooray! Over here, a little south-west of you, dianthus plants are at minimum biennial and I love their workhorse flower-all-year be-natural-weed-block-wherever-they-cover-the-garden just-keep-going nature. (but our original dianthus plants, from 11-ish years ago, and our added dianthus plants, from 9-ish years ago, have all gradually died off over the last 3 years, so it is time to add more back in this year… once I get the regular grass out of there, sigh.)
KC – yes, what is with the grass this year? It’s suddenly heavy in the back beds. On top of sand, of all things. And yes, my little trusty dianthus flowered very little this past year as well. That was the only thing I didn’t get to over Easter break. Dianthus will be in their pots for a while longer.
