From internet descriptions and photos I’d say it needs ripening, should be smoothly orange. Ripen on the counter, not in the refrigerator. Cold causes the pulp to break down.

~Silk – good to know. All I could find said that it can be eaten at any point of ripeness, but not what it looked like.
Looks like those pimples are ripe for popping.
